Aptumo is a new multi-utility SaaS product native to built from the ground up for all utilities companies, small or large, to bill anything, anywhere. Aptumo has been developed by Echo-MS (owned by South Staffordshire PLC), in Walsall, as part of an ambitious next generation growth programme underpinned by an ‘entrepreneurial’ start-up funding model. We have our first customers in the UK and Australia, and we are now moving out of the start-up mode into the next phase of our product life cycle.

Role Purpose

We are seeking candidates who will relish the technical challenge and opportunity to develop their skills. This is a development and growth opportunity for a Technical Author who loves to document all things product related. We are looking for someone who can set the benchmark in what good customer communications means for product change, governance, release management, training and user story alignment to outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write articles for internal and external stakeholders such as end users and Aptumo staff and/or partners.
  • Ensure that logs are maintained of any new features requiring documentation.
  • Ensuring that logs are maintained of any updates, errors, changes and omissions in the knowledge base.
  • Liaise with the Head of Product with your recommendations relating to areas that you have identified cause trouble for customers and create documents to resolve them.
  • Keep the Aptumo demo/training system updated with relevant examples.
  • Gain excellent knowledge of the utility industry.
  • Work collaboratively with other Technical Authors to assist them in producing their own articles.
  • Maintain consistency in style and provide guidance on language as well as providing proof reading services.


Our environment is fast paced, so you need to be comfortable with managing the demands of a rapidly evolving environment. In order to succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will need excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills, be open minded and consultative in their approach but more importantly have an appetite to absorb and share knowledge.

  • Excellent communication with a high standard of English, both written and verbal in order to:
    • Convey complex concepts in an engaging way.
    • Write clear, concise, consistent instructions.
    • Present information in a hyperlinked on-line format. (We use Atlassian’s Jira, O365 / MS Teams, Salesforce Clouds but knowledge of other tools is fine).
  • Ability to soak up information and learn quickly through interactions with others and also from your own experiments with Aptumo.
  • Create strong working relationships with product managers/owners and developers offering and extract user information from them.
  • Determination to work with sense of urgency as well as offering sound judgement.
  • Solutions focused and able to creatively solve problems.
  • Have a passion for excellence and a commitment to be the best.
  • Possess high levels of energy, excellent attention to detail.


  • 3+ years technical writing experience.
  • Technical writing qualification advantageous.
  • Degree qualified desirable but not essential
  • Experience of writing in a hyperlinked on-line format.
  • Knowledge of utilities, energy, billing or customer service products advantageous
